Our client specialises in the provision of planning, design and management services for infrastructure development worldwide. With interests in transportation, water, maritime and property, the company is undertaking commissions in over 70 countries from a network of more than 70 offices. They are currently seeking a Resident Engineer to be based in Damascus to oversee the construction stage of a project which is due to start early 2008.
KEY ROLE OBJECTIVE
The principal function of this position is to act as the company’s senior representative on site to oversee the Malaysian consortium’s construction operations and report to the client on progress and expenditure.
The position reports to the Airports Director, Middle East as well as the relevant Project Director.
The priorities of this role include:
* Responsibility for delivering the commission to build the company’s business and reputation
* Regular and systematic reporting of project performance measures in relation to project time, cost and quality requirements
* Tender / contract management and advice
* Audit of contractors drawings to ensure that they represent the project brief
* Manage testing and commissioning of the completed IT and M&E works
* Recommend suitability for handover of substantially complete works
* Recommend progress payments
* Manage rectification of defects
KEY REQUIREMENTS
* A relevant degree, will be an advantage but is not essential
* Good leadership, communication skills and flexibility in dealing with a variety of client and stakeholder representatives
* Sensitivity to local cultural expectations
* Previous experience of managing projects under FIDIC conditions
* A knowledge of some relevant technical issues in the project
* Understanding of working safely within an operational airport will be an advantage
* An understanding of the design and construction process
* A minimum of 15 years relevant experience
Whilst the preference is for extensive experience gained specifically within an airports environment, candidates with a background in general civil engineering building and infrastructure development projects at an airport are also invited to apply.
