The Civils group manages all activities associated with the maintenance and renewal of Network Rail owned structures and earthworks. It is the largest civil engineering asset base in the UK and consists of 40000 bridges, 750 tunnels, and 13000 miles of embankment/cutting. The scope of the works in the Civils area includes examinations, assessments, detailed designs and the implementation of projects, ranging in value from £10k to £35m.
Network Rail has one of the largest and most diverse property portfolios in the UK. The portfolio is a key component of the railway infrastructure and is central to the development of the industry; and is an integral part of Britain’s local and national economies and as such represents substantive challenge and opportunity. The portfolio consists of 2,500 stations, 100 light maintenance depots, 350 maintenance delivery depots and in excess of 7,000 line side buildings. The portfolio of stations feature all types of architectural design many of which are historically and economically important.
Network Rail is looking for a senior station capacity specialist to join the Principal Architect’s team which leads design throughout the station and operational building portfolios. The key role of the Senior Station Capacity Specialist is to develop company wide station passenger capacity policy, standards and guidance but will have a hands on approach to the development of assessment briefs, the application of passenger flow modelling and the development of project proposals.
As well as developing design direction and world class standards for the company this is an opportunity to brief and work alongside leading transport planning, architectural, engineering and property practices and other professionals in the ongoing care and development of railway property.

The successful candidate will have excellent communications skills and the ability to manage a wide range of stakeholders. Applicants must be qualified in a relevant subject and have significant relevant experience, including the application of passenger space planning techniques..
Job Skills, Experience and Qualifications
· Degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant subject · Substantial experience, including the assessment and application of passenger space planning techniques and station design · Understanding of business planning processes · Knowledge of the application of standards relating to station design, capacity and evaluation criteria
