Mechanical Engineer Surveyor (Pressure) needed for London (home based)

Our client’s network of regional and local offices manages client relationship and delivers a comprehensive range of services including inspection, testing, auditing, certification, ship classification and related technical assistance, training and outsourcing.

Your Role
The Engineering Inspection Division (EID) ensures site equipment is safe by delivering a highly professional and independent inspection solution. Mechanical Engineer Surveyors specialising in the Pressure discipline, ensuring thorough examinations are carried out regularly in accordance with up to date Regulations and Legislation.


RESPONSIBILTIES

  • Conduct in depth examinations of pressure plant to ensure the pressure plant will continue to operate safely for an allocated period.

  • Formulate, produce and distribute inspection reports in a professional manner within service standards

  • Whilst acting as a fully integrated member of a national and regional team, retain independent and individual responsibility for all allocated inspection and technical activities

  • Plan and arrange all work related activities in an effective, timely and efficient manner

  • Provide, build and maintain excellent client relationships and ensure that all customer service standards are met

  • Maintain an awareness of developments in standards and legislation affecting the appropriate discipline, and support change as required

  • Act on behalf of the company, making full use of technical expertise, when required

  • Provide training for other Engineer Surveyors as required

  • Contribute to the development of innovative solutions, thus differentiating Bureau Veritas in the market place



  • REQUIRED SKILLS

    The ideal candidate will hopefully hold a minimum of an ONC/HNC level qualification in a mechanical engineering discipline or equivalent qualification, have previous experience and knowledge of the mechanical pressure discipline, more specifically in relation to pressure plant, the awareness of:

    1. Materials;[basic properties of] mainly steels, cast steels and cast irons
    2. Failure modes; - such as fatigue, thermal fatigue, creep, residual stresses, stress corrosion, corrosion, errosion, operating beyond recommended safe operating limits [Pressure; high/low : Temperatures; high/low] etc.
    3. How pressure vessels are built
    4. Why inspections are required and what function they perform

    Note:
    There is also the need to be able to work in confined spaces [i.e.inside pressure vessels and boilers]. This also requires that you will have to be able to enter these confined spaces through limited access opening between 400mm diameter or 400mm x 500mm manholes.

    Salary Details
    Salary £27000 - £29000
    Company car or car user allowance
    25 days holiday, plus public holidays
    Up to two professional subscriptions paid.
    Eligible to join the company’s contributory pension scheme (8% company / 4% employee) on satisfactory completion of probationary period.
