Roles Responsibilities:
Work closely with operations giving risk based pro- active support for the business unit and its projects Assists in the development, implementation and tracking effectiveness of HSE improvement programmes Manage HSE for circa 350 direct hire operatives plus workshop activities Support bids with HSE input and presentations Establish, obtain accreditation and maintain under the leadership OHSAS18001 Acts as a mentor and develops proactive HSE resources Assist the UK senior HSE Manager with professional advice in the development, implementation and monitoring of the HSE policy Carry out regular inspections and report on places of work to ensure that safe systems of work are being used in compliance with statutory regulations and company procedures, and monitor other HSE related inspections Implement a programme of audits and assessments of workplaces and projects feeding back trends in findings to operations and the senior HSE manager Assist in incident investigations, analyse data and make recommendations to avoid recurrences Maintains knowledge of and provides advice on legislation that affects HSE Ensures working areas are monitored for noise, toxic and other chemical and physical hazards, using appropriate equipment or contractors Demonstrate leadership of, and commitment to, HSE setting a personal example at all times Further to HSE responsibilities this position acts as part of the Senior Management Team with an over-arching expectation to be at least involved in most all aspects of Operations Management from business planning through to facilities management. Play a very significant strategic role in helping direct the operations and is expected to provide a strong personal brand not only within projects, but across the whole operation. Contactable at any time (including evenings and weekends) in this role, should the need arise. A strong emphasis is placed upon strategic operational management and people development in this role. Short notice short duration business travel will frequently be required. Must be prepared to coach at all levels to ensure that employees are committed to the JIS philosophy of continuous improvement.
Requirements:
The suitable candidate will ideally have had around 10 years experience as a HSE professional with at least the last three in a senior management position within a large safety focussed petrochemical/ pharmaceutical or nuclear power based organisation.
Ideally they should have an engineering degree and be qualified to CMIOSH status.
