Principal Thermodynamics Engineer needed for steam turbine design department

The company designs, manufactures and supplies state-of-the-art products and systems to the power generation - for gas, coal, and hydro power plants - and industrial markets
Your Role is:
Development and preparation of technical design proposals for steam turbine upgrade projects suitable for tendering bid proposals and initial contract design - Reporting to the Head of Thermodynamics Group. You will be expected to Support all aspects of the technical tender design, bid preparation and tender documentation.
Main Tasks Include:
Focus on turbine cylinder and steam path upgrade requirements, covering all turbine technology aspects required to meet the international markets
Requiring engineering analysis (using both industry standard MS applications and in-house bespoke scientific software), detailed concept thermodynamic cycle analysis, assessment of client supplied specifications and plant operational data, generation of machine performance guarantee analysis
Thermodynamic definition of tender and contract steam path design
Analysis of site performance test cycle data
Support and technical supervision to other technical tendering design teams (located in Rugby, UK; Mannheim, Germany; Paris, France; Elblag, Poland) in order to generate identified solutions, including design and cost elements
Formal Presentation/Meetings and Technical Bid negotiation with clients
Generation and implementation of product development, process improvement and cost reduction initiatives
Project handover to Engineering functions on contract award
As a Principal Engineer in the Thermodynamics Group, the role also requires support to the group head with respect to supervision and training of the other group engineers
Required Skills: It is expected that the successful candidate will have: A degree in thermo/mechanical engineering or similar discipline Relevent experience in a Turbomachinery related business is necessary in order to apply Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to perform equally well with both technical detail content and customer facing requirements Ability to use complex engineering design tools together with a creative approach to problem solving is essential A positive attitude with high levels of self motivation, willingness to challenge established practice and innovate to secure business results Flexibility to travel to other locations in the ALSTOM network and to customer premises for short periods at short notice is required.

Salary Details depends on experience
Hours of Work 37 hours per week.(flexi-time)
Holiday Entitlement 25 days per year basic entitlement. Floating bank holidays – agreed annually. Holiday pro-rata during 1st year of employment.
