Job Description The Rail Systems group within Atkins combines rolling stock and trackside infrastructure expertise. It is made up of vehicle/rolling stock engineers and systems engineers who specialise in the early-stage design of telecoms, power and signalling systems. We are current looking for a Business Unit Manager (Rail Vehicles) to join our team. This role would ideally suit a mechanical or electrical engineer with significant experience in the UK rolling stock market. Based in either Derby or London, you will lead a large multi-disciplinary team of consulting engineers serving the Rosco, TOC and rolling stock manufacturer market. This position will provide you with a significant opportunity to utilise your skills and experience to help shape and develop a leading edge consultancy business in the UK rail sector.
Requirements The successful candidate will be a member of the IMechE (or equivalent) who has already gained significant experience of working within the Rail industry. You will be confident in providing leadership both technically and commercially and will be able to demonstrate a good understanding of the following: - Mechanical or electrical engineering systems on UK rolling stock
- Rolling stock procurement, design , maintenance, and refurbishment
- Knowledge of safety and approvals processes
You will also possess the following skills / attributes: - Ability to provide technical assurance
- Excellent Leadership and people management skills
- A strategic thinker who understands the rolling stock market and can position the business to take advantage of future opportunities whilst also dictating the pace of change.
Responsibilities
- Client management, business development and delivery of the key account management plan
- Overall responsibility for technical assurance
- Financial responsibility for P&L reporting and achievement of annual targets
- Preparation of business plans and business strategy
- Leadership and development of a productive performance management culture
- Recruitment, training, professional development and succession planning
