Mechanical Design Engineer Burton area £25-30K depending on experience
My client is a market leader in the design and refurbishment of mining and tunnelling locomotives. They are currently looking to recruit a ‘for their in house CAD design office.
Responsibilities; - Take a key role in product development and design. - Liaise with the Manufacturing Department to ensure that designs are produced to customer requirements and are compliant with relevant Company design and manufacturing standards. - Ensure the timely construction and availability of Bills of Materials. - Lead value analysis activities associated with the mechanical products within the business to ensure the cost effectiveness of existing and new designs. - Provide technical support to the customer both on and off site as required and to solve engineering related product problems. - Produce engineering related calculations in support of designs. - Take an original approach to problem solving, whilst maintaining a commercial awareness towards the design solution.
The individual should be degree qualified, or equivalent, and ideally have experience in the Railway Industry and / or a strong working knowledge of Mobile Off-Road equipment. Previous experience in the following areas is highly advantageous; - pneumatic & hydraulic systems - diesel engines - transmissions / gearboxes - friction braking systems - large heavy fabrications, up to 200mm thick plates and weights of 20 tonnes. - electrical equipment enclosures and the packaging of electrical equipment.
AutoCAD experience is essential as the position will involve design work and draughting. Mainly 2D design but the CAD office will be moving to 3D CAD before the end of the year, so 3D experience will be required, preferably Autodesk Inventor.
Applicants need to demonstrate an ability to learn quickly and be able to bring fresh ideas to help move the product forward. The person should be technically competent and be able to think laterally when problem solving, especially on the shop floor or at a customers sites.
