Graduate Training Programme – Nottingham £23-24K
Engineers are a vital resource to our network of leading edge automated warehouses, Logistics supply chain premises, Manufacturing factories, a 15MW Combined Heat and Power Energy centre on our main 300 acre Nottingham site. They are involved in wide range of projects across all these areas, not to mention the support they give to all other parts of the business, including over 2000 stores. We’re looking for two Engineering Graduates in any of the main engineering disciplines to join our in-house Group Engineering team. One should have specialised in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil and Building or Energy and Environmental Engineering. The other will have studied a combination of these, or have a general engineering degree.
You will have an unrivalled opportunity to learn from the best, as you apply your technical knowledge to real situations. Learning will be tailored to your needs and interests throughout the time you spend 6/12 months in four key areas over a 2/3-year period:
Technical Specification and Design Here, you’ll work with a Senior Project Manager on the specification of plant and equipment for retail or industrial premises. Particular emphasis will be placed on products that achieve the Company’s needs whilst reducing our carbon footprint.
Construction and Plant, and Equipment Installation Project Management You’ll ensure equipment is installed on site to programme and within budget. You’ll get great experience in project planning, reporting and supervision of external resources in this important role.
Engineering Operations Reporting to the Energy Centre Manager, you’ll be part of a team responsible for the safe, economic and reliable supply and distribution of energy around the main site in Nottingham. Focus will be on compliance with statutory environmental controls.
Services Maintenance This is a high profile area, and one on which the day-to-day operation of the Company depends. It’s all about the organisation and implementation of maintenance throughout our retail stores, and our Manufacturing and Supply Chain premises. You’ll set performance targets, monitor contractors, plan work, resolve problems, monitor costs and report on effectiveness.
Supported all the way by engineers who really know their subject, you’ll be exposed to a wide variety of situations and be encouraged to devise and implement solutions right from the start. These placements will be the foundation for your future career – we fully expect you to be our future senior managers – and you’ll be given all the help you need to become Chartered Engineers within 3 years.
To make the most of this rare chance to take a graduate placement that is designed around you, you’ll need to be a team player with plenty of initiative, flexible and enthusiastic, an analytical thinker with the potential to be an inspiring leader, and customer-focused at all times. Please note; applicants must be eligible to live and work in the UK. If a non UK resident, you must hold a work visa, valid for a minimum of 3 years.
