A strategic position has arisen for a Technical Director to provide technical management for development planning projects and business development input to assist in the continued expansion of our client's Cambridgeshire office.
Your principal role will be to act as Cost Centre Manager (CCM) and take responsibility for managing the office on a day-to-day basis to deliver its budgeted performance. You will be responsible for reporting the performance of the office to the Board and you will act as budget holder to the development planning division, playing a substantial part in the day-to-day management of the team.
Acting as Project Director / Manager on a number of major development planning projects, you will be expected to provide high-level technical input, including expert witness support and you will deal directly with clients in supporting their progress toward securing planning applications for their sites.
You will have shared responsibility for key client management, business development and work winning with an objective of significantly expanding the turnover of the office.
You will be an experienced engineer (or transport planner) with extensive knowledge and experience of the planning process including EIP / structure plans and public inquiries / local plans and you will be well versed in the preparation of Travel Plans, Transport Studies, the associated negotiations with Highway Authorities and have some experience as expert witness.
A good understanding and expertise in the assessment and prediction of non car based travel patterns is also required together with a sound knowledge of preliminary highway design, junction design and analysis, traffic software (TRICS, ARCADY, OSCADY, PICADY, TRANSYT etc.), traffic management techniques and Highways Agency and Local Authority design guidance so as to enable you to delegate to and accurately interpret the work of others.
You will have a proven record in client care / business development and have a number of clients that see you as their principal contact. You will also have a robust knowledge of the financial and contractual aspects of planning, bidding, and delivering both large and small projects.
Experience across a range of development sectors would be an advantage, as would an understanding of microsimulation techniques.
Our client will offer a competitive salary, probably in the range of £55 - 65,000 p.a., together with a comprehensive benefits package.
