Sustainability Engineer
Cambridge
£26,000 to £35,000+ Benefits

Within building services, sustainability is now an integral process within the design, construction and operation of most new building developments. Meeting sustainability targets is now a key regulatory requirement and one that is likely to become more significant in the future. We are looking for a high calibre sustainability engineer to further support a diverse, growing building services team in Cambridge.

The work is interesting and varied, including analysis of the environments ‘behaviour' of buildings, using advanced 3D modelling techniques and evaluate the sustainability of the design choices using recognised rating systems such as BREEAM. You will be working as a senior member of the building services team, leading projects and mentoring the more junior members of staff.

In the role you will make a major contribution by:

- Advising major property clients, leading architects, and project teams on sustainable building design.
- Providing advice on sustainable building design and make sure it is in line with Part ‘L' building regulations compliance.
- Advising clients, design teams, engineers and other professionals on all aspects of sustainability in the built environment, energy, and on the impact of related UK and EU policies.
- Carry out energy studies, environmental performance assessments and strategic sustainability appraisals.
- Develop concepts and strategies to enhance sustainability, and translating these into workable designs and specifications.
- Developing the sustainable engineering, design and strategy services (as part of integrated regeneration projects)
- Mentoring junior engineers on building Regulations, CDM and BREEAM
Implementing renewable and low carbon energy technologies including micro-macro wind turbine, - Biomass fuels, Ground heat source, solar energy solutions, CHP wherever possible.
- Playing an active part in business development.
- Developing and maintain relationships with clients (both private and public sector) and other external stakeholders.
- Monitoring the clients, initiatives, proposals and projects related to sustainable strategies and design.

Essential qualifications, experience, competencies and skills:

- Degree qualified Mechanical or Electrical Engineer, or equivalent
- Experience of BREEAM or international equivalents such s HQE, LEED or other environmental assessment tools
- Previous extensive relevant experience with a strong technical focus
- Ability to demonstrate technical excellence in sustainable engineering.
